A Little Leather Vocabulary

‘Patina’ is most commonly used to refer to the tarnish forming on the surface of bronze and similar metals or to the sheen which develops on well-used, good-quality solid wooden furniture. For our interests it also refers to ‘accumulated changes in surface texture and colour that result from normal use of an object such as a coin…’ This is what occurs to the full-grain leather used in the making of Fernando´s FG bags. Rather than ‘wearing out’ it develops, over time, a wonderfully rich and almost glossy ‘patina’.
